Images from the Visible Human Female CD

Based on the National Library of Medicine dataset. As the most advanced visual reference of the human female anatomy, the Visible Human CD gives you access to more than 10,000 color photographs, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance images. MR scans were performed on six sections of the body. The head was scanned axially:the other sections were scanned coronally. CT scans were performed while the body was fresh to obtain images for viewing soft tissue. To prepare for the process of taking photographs, the body then was encased in a block of gelatin and frozen. The woman used for the imaging was a 59 year old Maryland resident who died in September 1993 of a blockage to the heart [her family didn't want her named revealed] .
