ALCO-SCREEN™, by Chematics, is a saliva alcohol test intended for use as a rapid, highly sensitive non-invasive method for the objective determination of alcohol ingestion. With positive results, relative blood alcohol concentration may be approximated by colorimetric visual observation. For applications requiring a quantitative determination of blood alcohol concentration, a positive ALCOSCREEN™ result must be verified using an acceptable quantitative alcohol procedure. ALCO-SCREEN™ requires no special training provided that instructions are followed carefully. However, quantitative follow-up testing should be performed by a qualified professional. ALCO-SCREEN™ may also be used to qualitatively detect the presence of alcohol in many other fluids, such as drinks, blood serum etc.
Alcohol in the saliva causes the light cream color of the reactive pad fixed to one end of a thin plastic strip to change to a green color. The more alcohol present in the saliva, the darker the green color will be. Color standards printed on each foil package indicate the intensity of green colors for .02, .04, .08, and .30% BAC. The user compares the color change obtained for their test against the color standards to estimate alcohol level. The appearance of any green color indicates the presence of alcohol.
